Mozilla Kerala Community Meetup 2.0

So after a long span of four months Mozillians around Kerala have come together for the second meetup of the Mozilla Kerala Community with a strong motive of taking the Mozilla initiative a step forward. After the Meetup 1.0 there has been a very good progress whether it is in the case of events, getting contributors or marketing. The event took place at BTH Hotel, Ernakulam South Kerala on January 19th from 10:00 to 1700 hours. We had received over sixty registrations and from that about thirty seven people were short-listed to attend the event.
We had kick started the event at around 10am with a grand opening talk by Abid Aboobaker. He had informally welcomed and introduced the mozillians who had been with community since the last meetup and before that. After that we had the ice breaking session similar to the one we had in the last meetup. Then Anush listed out the past events done by the community. This was followed up with Saurabh, going through each event and analysing and coming up with revisions wherever needed. After that we had altogether turned to group activity for that each of members were grouped into groups of four/five. All the mozillians were requested to come up with new ideas and suggestions for conducting event and working structure. We had brainstormed for quite a good time and have come with a handful of suggestions/ideas. We had lunch after the brainstorming session. The afternoon session was concentrated in forming Working groups for the community like design working group,Web development, Evangelism, System admin etc. Also new community members were introduced to bugzilla, irc and etherpad so that they can effectively work. Again each veteran members of community were assigned to each new member to follow up. We were very glad that we got five awesome womens to our team so that we could push WoMoz to some extent. It was really awesome to get together with lots of Mozillians and storming ideas for shaping the future of the community. I thank all the people who made this event sucessfull

#MozSummit

"What is Mozilla Summit?"
Mozilla Summit is the gathering of Mozillians from around the world to discuss where Mozilla is heading and make plans for the future. Moreover to celebrate the years of awesomeness. This year it held simultaneously at three different locations Brussels, Santa Clara and Toronto from October 4 2013 to October 6 2013.

My Summit location was Santa Clara and here's my brief account of it. Seriously its very brief.

"3 Days of Awesomeness"
The first day was kicked of by Triston Nitot with his Welcome Speech.  Then came the Keynote from Chairperson of Mozilla Foundation Mitchell Baker. The talk dealt with the topic "What makes Mozilla "Mozilla". This talk was a live feed from since she was tat the Summit @ Brussels. Then there was a small presentation and speech from Brendan. After a short break there was world fair. Every country represented themselves quite well at their stalls with food, dresses, coins, custom swags etc. There were many open sessions post lunch. The day ended with Firefox OS dinner and party.
The second day as usual was started by Triston Nilot. Then came Harvey Anderson with a report on the health of the web. This was quite informative and gave insights of threats been faced. Also there was demo of some of the upcoming products by Brendan. Post break there was Innovation Fair followed by open sessions. The day came to an end with World Fair Dinner.
The third day started also had the same start. The Mozillians were divided into small groups and was asked to brainstorm and come up with action plans. The activity went for a long time and people coming with lots of cool plans. All these were recorded and was asked to be filled in a form so that these plans can be put to action. Then there was the usual open sessions and the day came to an end with awesome dance party.

"Extras"
It was such a spectacular event and i was glad to be the part of it. Among all, the most memorable part of the Summit was the time spent with Slovenian Community Thanks to Rok, Gasper, Goran and Matyaz and with Support Mozilla Team(SUMO) Thanks to Rosana and Madalina. Apart from these i was able to meet lots and lots of cool mozillians and share talks. The social events were also cool, notable mention Great America amusement park. It was a great feeling altogether. Thanks Mozilla :) Keep it coming.

Firefox App Days Kerala

Firefox App Days[Kerala] was the first major event by Mozilla in the Kerala locale(India). The event took place on June 22nd at Startup Village Kochi. The event venue was special since it was the first place in India to have 1Gbps connection. This event made a thorough imprint for Mozilla Mission in Kerala.

A little about the event...
The event witnessed a participation of nearly 65 people of which 9 were Mozillian/Rep Attendees who helped organize the event. The event kicked off after the breakfast with an introduction of Firefox OS and Marketplace. After that we had the most exciting higlight of the event which was none other than the remote session from Nick Desaulniers(JavaScript Mind Reader Jedi at Mozilla). Then there was a small session on WebFwd which got nice response from the audience. Again the event got into the App Development Session. Then after the lunch hackathon session followed when participants became busy with app development. This was followed by the demos of the app by the developers and the team who made the best app were given the opportunity to cut the cake celebrating 15 years of Mozilla. Then firefox app day tee shirts were given away. The event concluded with grand style.
Apps developed at the event are as follows :-
    > an HTML5 implementation of a Japanese flower arrangement game
    > a snake and ladder game
    > a hangman game
    > a wallet utility thingy
    > a game for identifying similar items with pictures and sounds for
autistic kids
    > an app that would let us add a new note every time a call is received
(by the Sony people)
    > BMI calculator
    > news readed for hacker news
    > language translator
    > Unit converter
    > Event management programme
    > Love percentage calculator

A little more about the event...
The event got featured in national as well as the local newspaper creating a massive publicity for Firefox OS and Mozilla Mission. We had two official Sony professionals who were working on Firefox OS Team at Sony. The event has set out momentum for more app days in the locale, as a result of it 2-3 mini app days have been confirmed in engineering colleges. Finally we believe that this event created enough foundation for Mozilla in Kerala locale so as to move forward in confidence.

I am done a little more...
